about

late gloomer is a selection of four recently-recorded songs. i'm trying to find my path back into music after a long time away, which isn't easy when you're a) a bit older than you used to be and b) a natural pessimist. the title reflects that.

"i'm a pilgrim" is an old american spiritual, which you'll find in all sorts of gospel, country, and bluegrass variations. this is my arrangement, which takes the song in a new musical direction but hopefully preserves its spirit.

"anyone but us" is a pop song about wanting things to work out and not being quite sure why they don't. i wrote and recorded this last year and previously released it as a standalone single.

"song for david" is quite unusual for me in that it's both keyboard-led (no guitar on the whole recording) and instrumental. semi-improvised, i wrote this to let a friend know i was thinking of him.

"atlantic city" is a bruce springsteen song about love and desperation.
